The historic Red Fort in Delhi, a timeless symbol of India’s heritage and resilience is set to resonate with devotional hymns this November. The Delhi government has announced a three-day “Kirtan Darbar” from November 23 to 25, 2025, to commemorate the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, the ninth Sikh Guru revered across faiths for his selfless sacrifice in defense of human dignity and freedom of religion.
For three consecutive days, the Mughal-era fort which has witnessed centuries of India’s political and cultural evolution will transform into a vibrant spiritual arena. The Red Fort’s ramparts will echo with soulful kirtan, shabad recitations, and discourses recounting the Guru’s life, teachings, and his ultimate act of courage in 1675, when he stood firm against oppression and gave his life to uphold the right of others to practice their faith freely.
The choice of Red Fort as the venue is deeply symbolic — it was near this site that Guru Tegh Bahadur made his supreme sacrifice, earning the title “Hind Di Chadar” (Shield of India). The event thus bridges Delhi’s rich past with a message that continues to inspire generations.
The Kirtan Darbar will feature eminent Ragi Jathas, devotional singers, and scholars from across India and abroad, performing Gurbani kirtan and narrating episodes from the Guru’s life. Each day will include sessions of spiritual reflection, cultural showcases, and musical renditions that highlight Sikh values of compassion, equality, and courage.
A light-and-sound show will illuminate the fort’s walls each evening, narrating Guru Tegh Bahadur’s life journey — from his teachings in Anandpur Sahib to his fearless stand in Delhi. In addition, a temporary exhibition and museum inside the fort will display historical manuscripts, miniature paintings, and rare artefacts depicting the Guru’s legacy.
The Kirtan Darbar will be open to the public with free entry, though security measures are expected to be tight given the scale and significance of the event.
