Good news for frequent travellers! The much-awaited Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway is steadily nearing completion and is expected to transform road travel across North India. Once operational, the expressway will reduce the Delhi to Chandigarh travel time from the current 5–6 hours to nearly 2 hours, making weekend getaways, business trips, and family travel significantly faster and more convenient.

With an estimated project cost of ₹38,905 crore, the expressway is among the largest highway infrastructure projects in India. Most stretches are expected to open between late 2026 and March 2027, bringing a major boost to regional connectivity.

Some expected travel time reductions include:

  • Delhi to Chandigarh: Around 2 hours (currently 5–6 hours)

  • Delhi to Amritsar: Around 4 hours

  • Delhi to Katra: Around 6 hours (currently close to 14 hours)

The benefits of this mega expressway extend far beyond Chandigarh. Once fully completed, it will dramatically improve connectivity to Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir, making long-distance road journeys more efficient.

A Major Milestone for India's Highway Network:

The Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway is set to become one of India's most significant expressway projects, offering world-class infrastructure and high-speed connectivity across North India. As additional sections open over the coming months, commuters can look forward to shorter travel times and more convenient road trips.

Whether you're planning a quick escape to Chandigarh, a visit to Amritsar, or a pilgrimage to Katra, this expressway is poised to make the journey easier than ever.
