In a major move aimed at improving work-life balance, reducing traffic congestion, and promoting sustainable urban living, the government has announced a two-days-a-week Work From Home (WFH) policy for employees in selected government offices across Delhi. The decision comes shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the need for smarter and more flexible working models in urban India.

The announcement is already creating buzz across the capital, especially among daily commuters dealing with long travel hours, heavy traffic, and rising pollution concerns.

The administration declared that every Monday would be "Monday Metro" and that all ministers, officers, and staff would take the metro. Additionally, the public has been urged by the government to observe one "No Vehicle Day" each week. For the next six months, no new petrol, diesel or electric vehicles will be purchased.

PM Modi urged people to utilise more electric cars, promote carpooling, use Metro rail and public transportation whenever possible, and conserve gasoline. Additionally, he urged businesses and offices to resurrect virtual conferences, online meetings, and work-from-home arrangements—strategies that had been successful in lowering fuel consumption and increasing efficiency during the Covid-19 pandemic.

As hybrid work culture becomes more normalized, Delhi could emerge as a leading example of balancing governance, productivity, and quality of life in a rapidly growing urban ecosystem.
