On June 30, 2025, Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta officially inaugurated the Viksit Delhi Chief Minister’s Internship Programme, a pioneering initiative aimed at actively involving youth in the city’s governance and policymaking.
The programme is described not just as an educational opportunity, but as a “covenant between Delhi and its youth”, encouraging them to be “active co-creators” in shaping the future of the city. It seeks to empower interns with a ground-level understanding of governance, covering critical sectors like urban mobility, healthcare, waste management, and digital innovation.
Candidates will be evaluated on their administrative knowledge, civic attitude, and leadership abilities during the online application process. 300 of the candidates will be selected for a one-day boot camp that includes workshops, interactive sessions, and a final essay test. 150 will be chosen from this group.
There will be three stages to the internship. In the first, interns will receive training on important policy topics and the operations of the Delhi government. In the second, they will be tasked with conducting fieldwork in each of the 70 assembly constituencies in the city in order to pinpoint local problems and offer solutions. In the last round, interns will be assigned to government agencies to write policy papers on ten key topics. The chief minister will be shown the top two papers.
Each intern receives ₹20,000 per month for the duration of the 89‑day internship. The programme officially runs from July 1 to September 27, 2025.
