Commuting across Delhi-NCR is set to become much more convenient as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) gears up for a major network expansion under its Phase IV and Phase V(A) projects. The ambitious plan will introduce 15 new interchange stations, including five triple-interchange hubs, making travel smoother, faster, and better connected for millions of daily passengers.
The expansion will be achieved through the construction of 8 new Metro corridors, allowing commuters to switch lines more efficiently while reducing travel time and avoiding long detours.
Delhi Metro Network to Become More Connected:
The Delhi Metro currently has 31 interchange stations, including those connected to the Noida-Greater Noida Aqua Line and Gurugram Rapid Metro. At present, Kashmere Gate is the only station where three Metro lines intersect.
Once the Phase IV and Phase V(A) projects are completed, the total number of interchange stations will increase to 46, significantly strengthening the capital's public transport network.
A major highlight of the expansion is the addition of five new triple-interchange stations, which will provide seamless connectivity between multiple Metro corridors.
Already serving as an interchange between the Yellow Line and the Airport Express Line, New Delhi Metro Station will also connect with the Magenta Line, making airport and city travel even more convenient.
Currently connecting the Red Line and Green Line, Inderlok will become a three-line interchange with the addition of the Magenta Line.
One of South Delhi's busiest stations, Lajpat Nagar will connect the Violet Line, Pink Line, and the upcoming Golden Line, creating a major transit hub for commuters.
Central Secretariat will evolve into a triple-interchange station linking the Yellow Line, Violet Line, and the new Magenta Line corridor, offering better connectivity to central Delhi.
Already an important interchange between the Yellow and Pink Lines, Azadpur will also connect to the Magenta Line, making travel across North Delhi even more efficient.
Alongside these five major hubs, 11 additional interchange stations will be developed as part of the Delhi Metro Phase IV expansion. These stations are expected to improve access to residential neighbourhoods, commercial centres, educational institutions, and business districts while easing congestion across existing routes.
The expanded network will make cross-city travel more seamless and reduce the dependence on private vehicles, contributing to a more sustainable urban transport system.
As Delhi continues to grow, the expanded Metro system will play a crucial role in supporting daily commuters while making public transport more convenient and accessible across the National Capital Region.
