Road trips from Delhi-NCR to the picturesque hill town of Dharamsala could soon become much easier and faster. With several key four-laning projects nearing completion across Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra region, travel time between Delhi and Dharamsala is expected to reduce from the current 9–11 hours to nearly 6 hours by September 2026.
The development is set to be a game-changer for travellers from Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad who frequently head to the popular Himalayan destination for weekend escapes, family vacations, and spiritual retreats.
NH-503 Four-Laning Project to Transform Connectivity:
At the heart of this infrastructure upgrade is the four-laning of National Highway-503 (NH-503), a crucial route connecting Mehatpur, Una, Amb, and Ranital in Himachal Pradesh. The approximately 99-kilometre highway corridor is being developed under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and is expected to dramatically improve traffic flow and reduce bottlenecks.
The upgraded highway will offer smoother travel conditions, safer road infrastructure, and significantly reduced travel times for vehicles entering the Kangra Valley region.
A Boost for Delhi-NCR Weekend Tourism:
Dharamsala has long been one of the most popular hill destinations for residents of Delhi-NCR, thanks to its scenic mountain views, Tibetan culture, pleasant weather, and attractions such as Dharamsala, McLeod Ganj, and HPCA Stadium.
Once the highway upgrades are completed, travellers will be able to leave Delhi early in the morning and reach Dharamsala by afternoon, making short trips far more practical and appealing.
For Delhi-NCR residents planning mountain getaways, the upcoming highway upgrades could make Dharamsala one of the most accessible hill stations in North India. The reduced travel time may also encourage more frequent road trips, boosting tourism in Kangra district and surrounding destinations.
As September approaches, travellers can look forward to a faster, more comfortable drive to one of Himachal Pradesh’s most beloved destinations.
