Travelling from Delhi to Nepal by road could soon become significantly faster and more comfortable, thanks to the nearly completed Gorakhpur–Sonauli National Highway (NH-24). One of India's most important international highway projects, the four-lane corridor is in its final phase, with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) reporting that nearly 89% of the construction work has already been completed.
The 79.5-kilometre highway will connect Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh to Sonauli, one of the busiest border crossings between India and Nepal. Once operational, it is expected to transform cross-border travel, benefiting tourists, pilgrims, traders, and cargo operators alike.
