Delhi Traffic Police Issues New Year’s Eve 2026 Traffic Advisory!

Traffic Restrictions in Delhi for New Year's Eve 2026 Celebrations!

Kriti Sawhney

As New Year’s Eve celebrations approach, the Delhi Traffic Police has released a comprehensive safety and travel advisory to manage the massive crowds expected across the city on December 31, 2025. Popular hotspots such as India Gate, Connaught Place (CP), Central Delhi areas, and nearby markets are expected to witness heavy footfall, prompting authorities to enforce strict traffic regulations and diversions to ensure public safety and smooth movement.

Traffic Restrictions Begin at 7 PM on December 31st:

According to the advisory, traffic diversions and movement restrictions will come into effect from 7:00 PM onwards across major stretches of Central Delhi. These measures aim to prevent overcrowding, reduce congestion, and allow emergency services to function without obstruction during the peak celebration hours.

Several roads leading to India Gate, CP Inner and Outer Circle, Janpath, Barakhamba Road, and surrounding areas may be closed or restricted for private or public vehicles, with entry permitted only to authorised vehicles.

Public Advisory: Use Public Transport & Plan Ahead

The Delhi Traffic Police has strongly recommended the use of public transport, including the Delhi Metro, to minimise congestion. Commuters are advised to:

- Check routes in advance

- Follow diversion signage

- Avoid parking in restricted zones

- Stay updated through official traffic alerts and social media handles

Parking restrictions will also be enforced near celebration zones, and improperly parked vehicles may be towed.

If you’re heading out to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Delhi, plan your commute carefully and expect delays in Central Delhi. Authorities urge citizens to remain patient, follow traffic rules, and celebrate responsibly.
