What if you could turn everyday frustration on the roads into real money? In a unique initiative aimed at tightening traffic enforcement and encouraging civic participation, the Delhi Traffic Police has launched a citizen-driven reporting system through the Traffic Sentinel (Prahari) app — offering rewards of up to ₹50,000 per month to those who report traffic violations.
What Is The Prahari App?
Prahari, meaning "sentinel" or "watchperson", is a mobile application that allows Delhi residents to report traffic rule violations they witness on the road. From helmetless bikers and signal jumpers to wrong-side drivers and illegal parking — if you see it, you can report it.
This initiative transforms citizens into digital whistleblowers, helping the police crack down on violations faster and more effectively.
The Traffic Prahari app, which was introduced as part of the Delhi government's larger smart governance agenda, allows users to record infractions, such as red-light jumpers and helmetless bikers, and provide photographic or video evidence to the appropriate authorities. Important metadata, such as the date, time, location, and vehicle registration information, must be included in every report.
Under the Motor Vehicles Act, these submissions may result in the issuing of digital challans after verification. Notably, depending on the quantity and calibre of their validated submissions, citizens whose complaints lead to successful enforcement proceedings might get monthly incentives of between ₹10,000 and ₹50,000.
With Prahari, Delhiites no longer have to watch helplessly as people flout traffic rules. Instead, they now have a tool to take action — and even get rewarded for it.
So next time you witness a reckless driver or someone running a red light, don’t just fume — click, report, and get paid.
