World Environment Day is celebrated every year on June 5 to encourage awareness and action for the protection of the environment. The theme of this year is ‘End plastic pollution.’ On this occasion, Delhi, the capital city of India is all set to launch project to restore the degraded land in Aravalli range.
The 700 km long Aravalli range which is currently facing degradation is all set to get restored. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be launching the project with an aim to restore the mountain’s ecological health and create a green wall stretching from Delhi to Gujarat on June 5.
The renewed project will be launched in South Delhi on World Environment Day 2025, one of the 29 districts in four states where the scheme will be executed. Chief Minister of states like Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and Gujarat will be present at different Ravalli sites to mark their support for the program.
As per officials, initiatives like large scale landscape restoration, wildlife corridor development, expansion of water catchment area, plantations of local species, development of grassland, setting up nurseries and livestock management will be taken care of under this project.
The Aravalli has 22 wildlife sanctuaries and four tiger reserves- Ranthambore, Sariska, Ramgarh, Vishdhari and Mukunda Hills. Several bird sanctuaries are also a part of the range.
Regarding this, an official told a media portal, “The project will act as a barrier against desertification and contribute to water recharging the groundwater in the indo-Gangetic plains.”
This World Environment, let’s take a pledge to protect our surroundings and imbibe healthy practices for our environment.
