The India International Centre hosted the opening of the 20th International Association of Women in Radio & Television (IAWRT) Asian Women's Film Festival on 6th March. Through March 8, 65 female-directed films from 21 Asian nations will be screened at the festival.
This year's festival, which is curated by the renowned film editor Bina Paul, offers an impressive lineup of short, animated, non-fiction, and fiction films that all add to the mosaic of female narrative. It's a cinematic universe created by women, for all.
This year's guests include acclaimed Japanese cinematographer Akiko Ashizawa, filmmaker Payal Kapadia, Aparna Purohit, CEO of Aamir Khan Productions, and Hwang Hae Rim, curator of the Seoul International Women's Film Festival.
The festival wants to give women filmmakers, who have a hard time finding distributors, sales agents, and resources, assistance and visibility. Delhi Tourism, the British Council, the Japan Foundation, and the French Institute in India are supporting this year's programs.
In a lot of ways, this festival is a call to welcome a change into the female gaze and become more sensitive to a more subtle and kind way of looking at ourselves.
When: 6th - 8th March.
Where: C. D. Deshmukh Auditorium & Conference Room 1, India International Centre, Lodhi Estate, New Delhi.
