The military custom known as the Change of Guard ceremonial has ancient roots. Since the beginning of time, sentries and guards at palaces, forts, and other defence installations have alternated periodically to allow a new group of soldiers to assume command. The Ceremonial Army Guard battalion is in charge of supplying ceremonial guards and sentries for the Indian President at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

To make the ceremony more aesthetically pleasing and accessible to the general public, it has been redesigned and relocated.

In the new arrangement, the Rashtrapati Bhavan serves as the backdrop for an exciting musical and visual extravaganza. According to a statement released by Rashtrapati Bhavan, the celebration would include the President's Bodyguard troops and horses, the Ceremonial Guard Battalion troops, and the Ceremonial Military Brass Band performing ceremonial military drills.

According to the statement, the changing of guard event will begin on February 22 in a new configuration with more seats.

Change Of Guard Ceremony At Rashtrapati Bhavan:

The location has been moved to Rashtrapati Bhavan's Forecourt, which is more easily accessible by the public, and an equestrian display by the Presidents' Bodyguard in their ceremonial trappings has been added. The Army Brass Band plays as the PBG troops, mounted on their well-trained, strong, and caparisoned horses, advance from behind the Jaipur Column to begin the 30-minute event. The Parade Commander then marches in, followed by the guard of First Battalion, Fifth Gorkha Rifles (Frontier Force), who follows his "word of command." Following examination, the rookie guard positions themselves alongside the veteran, and the two guards exchange the national salute.

The new guard then assumes the responsibilities of sentries and guards. The PBG's horse performance and the playing of the national anthem mark the conclusion of the ceremony.

Beginning on February 22, 2025, a registration fee of Rs. 50 per visitor will be implemented. The registration fee is non-refundable and non-transferable, and it must be paid online.
