The newly established BJP government has set its eyes on fulfilling its long list of election promises, one by one. The most recent of these is the revitalisation of the Yamuna River and its conversion into a tourist destination.
The city government has started getting ready to launch cruises on the Yamuna River in an effort to turn the area close to the Wazirabad barrage into a unique tourist attraction. It intends to provide ferries and boat taxi services in order to establish cruise trips in the city.
To choose a qualified operator for two solar or electric battery-powered cruises along the specified river stretch, the Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation (DTTDC) issued a request for quotations (RFQ).
The project is anticipated to improve river-cruise tourism once it is up and running, providing a sustainable and environmentally friendly water transportation choice. The proposal states that the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Delhi Jal Board (DJB), DTTDC, the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), and the irrigation and flood control department will work together on the project.
Cruise Routes:
For the cruise services, which will start and conclude at Sonia Vihar and cover a distance of seven to eight miles round trip, the DTTDC will engage an operator. Every boat needs to have space for 20–30 people and be able to reach five to seven knots.
The boats must have passenger safety jackets, an announcement system, and inboard bio-toilets (zero discharge). The boats should be no more than two years old, air-conditioned, and either owned or rented. According to the proposal, the operator must guarantee a minimum of four round journeys every day.
