Delhi is all set to get its first-ever cruise service on the Yamuna River, a move that blends eco-tourism with riverfront rejuvenation. Expected to start in November 2025, this exciting initiative will offer scenic river rides and open up new possibilities for urban leisure and heritage exploration.
The cruise service will operate on an 8-km stretch of the Yamuna River between Sonia Vihar (near Wazirabad Barrage) and Jagatpur (close to the famous Shani temple). This zone has been selected due to its relatively cleaner waters and accessibility from North and Northeast Delhi.
To start the cruise services, five agencies have signed a memorandum of understanding. Participants in this ambitious project include the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation (DTTDC), the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, and the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI).
Two state-of-the-art air-conditioned electric/solar hybrid cruise boats will be deployed initially. These vessels are environmentally friendly and will offer a quiet, smooth ride. Boats will come equipped with life jackets, public address systems, bio-toilets, and CCTV cameras for safety.
This winter, experience a brand-new side of the city—onboard an eco-cruise along the Yamuna!
