Nehru Place, long known as Delhi’s go-to tech bazaar and a concrete jungle of commerce, is getting a creative facelift! In a refreshing move, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has launched a new initiative to infuse public art and culture into the heart of this bustling commercial district.
Nehru Place, which was built in the 1980s, has long been a significant market for electronics and IT hardware in the Capital, but it has struggled with encroachments, poor upkeep, and insufficient public amenities.
A vibrant transformation of open spaces through hand-painted murals, aesthetic installations, and handcrafted design elements. With a budget of ₹15 lakh and a tight 45-day timeline, the goal is to reimagine Nehru Place not just as a tech and business hub, but also as an inviting, walkable space that’s lively, colorful, and pedestrian-friendly.
DDA has invited talented artists and collectives to bring their creative flair to the area. Expect pops of color on walls, thoughtful seating zones, painted pathways, and quirky touches that blend function with beauty. The makeover aligns with a broader push to reclaim public spaces in Delhi and make them more inclusive, accessible, and enjoyable for all, whether you’re heading to work, shopping for gadgets, or simply strolling through the plaza.
This initiative also complements the growing trend of urban placemaking, where art, design, and community engagement breathe new life into functional spaces.
