Delhi is gearing up to offer a brand-new sightseeing experience with the launch of double-decker tourist buses on a dedicated heritage circuit. The initiative will mark the return of the iconic buses to the capital’s streets after over 30 years, giving both locals and tourists a nostalgic yet modern way to explore the city’s rich history.
The service is expected to begin later this month, around 20 February, aligning with the first anniversary of the Delhi government in power. In its initial phase, two electric double-decker buses, manufactured by Ashok Leyland, will be deployed on select routes.
Prominent sites including the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, National War Memorial, Bharat Mandapam, the new Parliament complex, Kartavya Path, and Dilli Haat would be included in the proposed circuit. The project is a component of a larger attempt to showcase Delhi's central view as a unified and convenient travel destination.
The government is also organising evening excursions in addition to daytime offerings. The path for nighttime tourism has almost been decided upon, according to officials, and operating hours are anticipated to be revealed shortly.
The launch of double-decker tourist buses is expected to enhance Delhi’s tourism offerings, especially for weekend explorers, families, and first-time visitors. By combining heritage, comfort, and sustainability, the initiative aims to make city sightseeing more structured and accessible.
