In a landmark move towards empowering women and transgender residents of Delhi, the Delhi Government is set to launch the Saheli Smart Card, a modern, digital upgrade from the old pink bus tickets. Scheduled to roll out on Bhai Dooj, October 23, 2025, this initiative promises free, secure, and convenient travel across Delhi’s DTC and Cluster bus networks.

What is the Saheli Smart Card?

The Saheli Smart Card is more than just a bus pass. Designed under the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) framework, it is a personalized lifetime card featuring the holder's photograph and name. Beyond free travel on DTC and Cluster buses, the card can also be topped up for use on other transit systems like the Delhi Metro and even for purchases at select merchant outlets.

This initiative not only simplifies travel for women but also digitizes the entire ticketing process, replacing the old paper-based pink tickets, which were often cumbersome and inconvenient.

According to officials, the smart card would be valid for life, allowing women to travel on government buses without any time or usage restrictions. However, only Delhi-based women will be eligible for the perk. The cards will only be granted following complete KYC verification by a designated bank, and applicants must register online via the DTC portal. No cards will be provided immediately at DTC counters, the transport department explained.

With the Saheli Smart Card, Delhi is not just giving women free travel—it’s giving them freedom, convenience, and empowerment. A small card, but a giant leap for women’s mobility in the city!
