Delhiites woke up to costlier metro rides this week as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) implemented its first fare revision in eight years. The new fare structure came into effect on August 25, 2025, marking a significant change for the city’s 70-lakh-plus daily commuters who heavily rely on the network.
The fare hike ranges between ₹1 and ₹4 for most routes, while the Airport Express Line saw an increase of up to ₹5.
Revised Fare Are As Follows:
- 0–2 km: ₹11 (up from ₹10)
- 2–5 km: ₹21 (up from ₹20)
- 5–12 km: ₹32 (up from ₹30)
- 12–21 km: ₹43 (up from ₹40)
- 21–32 km: ₹54 (up from ₹50)
- 32+ km (longest trips): ₹64 (up from ₹60)
The minimum fare is now ₹11 and the maximum ₹64.
Experts agree that while the fare hike may pinch daily riders, it is vital for sustaining one of the world’s largest and most reliable metro systems.
After 8 years, fares have gone up—but Delhi Metro is still among the most economical, fast, and eco-friendly ways to travel across NCR.
