As part of the Delhi Electric Vehicle Interconnector (DEVi) program, Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta officially launched 400 electric buses in a historic step to address the city's ongoing last-mile connection issues and advance clean mobility. The event, which was attended by Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, is a daring move in the direction of a more accessible and greener capital.
The DEVi program, which was conceived as a joint venture between the Delhi Government and the Centre, intends to enhance the commuter experience by providing economical, safe, and sustainable public transportation between important bus terminals and metro stations in East and West Delhi.
In its initial phase, DEVi places 400 contemporary, small electric buses in high-demand locations such as Nangloi, Vinod Nagar East, and Ghazipur. Every bus has the following features:
- There are 23 seats (six of which are designated for women) and enough for 13 standing people.
- Free transportation for female travellers.
In addition to GPS tracking, digital route displays, automatic passenger counting, CCTV surveillance, voice announcement systems, panic buttons, wheelchair ramps, and knee-down flooring for older and disabled commuters, these electric buses are equipped with Intelligent Transport Management Systems (ITMS).
The introduction of the DEVi complements Delhi's larger initiatives to update its urban transport infrastructure. The city is positioned as an example for responsive governance and forward-thinking infrastructure planning because of its emphasis on technological integration, safety, and accessibility.
In addition to marking a change in mobility, the DEVi buses' launch marks a revolution in the way the city unites its citizens, preserves its environment, and shapes its future.
