If there is something anyone can talk about right now, it is the MET Gala 2025! The highly anticipated event is currently taking place at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and with major Indian representation, the desi quotient on the carpet is high. If there’s one look people can’t stop raving about, it is popular Delhi based celebrity designer Gaurav Gupta’s ensemble.
The theme of MET Gala 2025 is ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’ and the dress code is ‘Tailored For You’ which encourages guests to celebrate artistry, precision and uniqueness of traditional and modern tailoring.
Shining bright at the MET carpet this year was Kiara Advani in a unique and emotional ensemble by Gaurav Gupta. The designer titled the look, ‘Bravehearts’ which celebrated Kiara Advani’s pregnancy by featuring a gold sculpted breastplate with two hearts connected by an umbilical cord. The actress’ dramatic white cape paid homage to Andre Leon Talley’s iconic 2010 MET Gala outfit, striking the perfect balance between vulnerability and strength.
With this look, Gaurav Gupta has paid a tribute to the legacy and identity inspired by the theme celebrating Black Fashion and dandyism. The designer first introduced the breastplate couture concept in his Spring Summer 2024 show, Aarohanam. Since then, it has become a signature element in his looks with actresses like Alia Bhatt and Sonam Kapoor wearing ensembles and some of the most prestigious fashion shows in the world.
Gaurav Gupta And The Delhi Connection
Designer Gaurav Gupta grew up in Delhi and first studied at National Institute of Fashion Technology. He then graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2003 and finally started his own label based in the capital city in 2005. Recently, he introduced his home décor label displayed at his flagship store in Mehrauli, New Delhi.
The avant-garde Indian designer has had his work featured in events such as Paris Haute Couture Week and also provided attires from prominent figures like Megan Thee Stallion at the Oscars, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan at Cannes, Cardi B in a music video and many more.
