According to Manohar Lal Khattar, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Delhi Metro's network will exceed New York Metro's 399-kilometer record and become the greatest for a single city by December 2025.
“With the opening of the 12-km stretch from Aerocity to Tughlakabad, Golden line, Delhi Metro’s network will become the largest single-city network in the world,” said Khattar at a tunnel breakthrough event for Golden Line, held at the Vasant Kunj metro station.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has completed an underground tunnel between Kishangarh and Vasant Kunj Station on the Tughlakabad-Aerocity track, marking a significant construction milestone in Phase 4.
According to him, Delhi Metro currently operates a 394-kilometer network. According to the Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, metro networks are open or under construction in 29 states nationwide, with a current network length of almost 1,000 kilometres, making it the third-largest in the world. He declared, "We will soon surpass China as the nation with the second-largest metro network."
After boring a 1,550-meter tunnel, a tunnel boring machine (TBM) made its breakthrough this morning at the Vasant Kunj station. A massive 91-meter-long TBM was used to make this tunnel breakthrough. As part of the Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor, two parallel circular tunnels allowing up-and-down travel are being built on this section. It is anticipated that the other parallel tunnel will be completed by June 2025.
