The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Beckhaul Digital Technologies Private Limited have signed a deal to install and manage a high-speed optical fibre network along Metro routes, meaning that the days of not being able to access the Internet while underground will soon be over.
700 km of fibre optic cables will be installed along all Metro corridors, including the Airport Express Line, according to a statement from the DMRC. With the Pink and Magenta Lines going live first, the deployment will happen in stages.
In order to support telecom firms, internet service providers, data centres, and smart city initiatives, the fibre network will serve as the backbone for high-speed internet. According to the statement, it will also facilitate the seamless rollout of 5G services throughout Delhi-NCR. The government of India's ambition for a digitally connected country is supported by this program.
Internet access within the metro will be simple once this is installed. The commuters' biggest issue at the moment is when the metro goes underground. This problem will be fixed once it is planted.
