The New Delhi metro station now includes a pod hotel, giving travellers an appropriate place to stay as they wait for their trains. This establishment, which is close to the New Delhi Railway Station, is intended to serve transit passengers who want to spend the night.
To increase non-fare revenue, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been implementing a number of property development projects, including office space, entertainment areas, and retail stores at different metro stations.
A DMRC official said, "At New Delhi metro station, which serves as an interchange for the Yellow and Airport Express Lines, the vendor has developed a pod hotel for passengers looking for overnight accommodation. The pod hotel is now operational. Of the 3,000 square metre area, a portion is dedicated to the hotel, with the remainder used for other commercial purposes."
DMRC has lately added a number of amenities to metro stations like Malviya Nagar, Punjabi Bagh, Azadpur, and Faridabad Sector 20B in addition to the pod hotel. These include food courts, retail stores, and office spaces. Future construction projects include an industrial complex that spans 4,100 square meters and includes office, retail, and parking spaces.
According to the DMRC, the developments are being implemented in line with international metro systems, which do not rely on government subsidies and instead rely on non-fare earnings to remain financially sustainable.
