Located in the centre of Model Town, North Delhi, Naini Lake is set to undergo a significant makeover. The goal of this ambitious proposal is to revitalise the 6.5-acre body of water, increasing its allure as a tranquil urban getaway.
The DTTDC and the Delhi Tourism Department were directed by Delhi Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra to work together on a proposal to hold an annual "Naini Lake Festival" in the winter. It is anticipated that this festival will draw more tourists to the lake and honour Delhi's cultural diversity. The current cafeteria will be renovated as part of the development plan in order to improve services and increase tourism department revenue.
The proposed renovation's primary highlights are the restoration and reopening of the lake's famous melodic dancing fountain and the installation of a cutting-edge laser show system on the island in the middle of the lake. Visitors are anticipated to have a visually captivating experience with this laser show.
The lake's aesthetic appeal will be further enhanced by the proposed installation of two new fountains with LEDs that can spray water up to 20 feet high and 30 feet wide, according to the statement. According to Mishra, a pneumatic system will be put in place to create artificial waves in the water, which will raise the lake's oxygen content and improve its aesthetic appeal.
Mishra suggested operating LED-lit shikara boats and little cafes that can accommodate 15–20 people, which are perfect for small events and family get-togethers, in order to encourage tourism and leisure. There will be gondola boats, racing boats, and water scooters that are styled like those in Venice, Italy. CCTV cameras will be installed across the property for security.
To further enhance the environment of the lake, palm trees and other decorative flora will be planted, and ducks, swans, and other eye-catching birds will be brought in. Mishra emphasised that these initiatives will support ecological balance and tourism in the city in addition to providing tourists with a new and revitalising experience.
