Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented a bold plan to establish the nation's capital as a major destination for wellness and medical care, transforming it into a global centre for health tourism.

Speaking at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital's 70th Foundation Day, Gupta praised the facility as "a living embodiment of service, dedication, and excellence in healthcare." She commended the hospital's long history and renown in India and outside, tracing its beginnings in Lahore in 1921 and its re-establishment in Delhi in 1954.

According to Gupta, this year's budget includes Rs 12,893 crore for healthcare services from her government and Rs 2,144 crore of this has been set aside for the Ayushman Bharat Yojana's execution. The government also intends to build 400 health and wellness centres, also called Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, throughout the city, 24 new hospitals, and more than 16,000 new beds.

“We aim to make Delhi a global destination for medical treatment. Promoting health tourism will not only enhance our healthcare services but also contribute significantly to strengthening the city’s economic ecosystem,” Gupta said.

Gupta highlighted that her government is dedicated to offering all city dwellers "timely, accessible, and quality health services." "A self-sufficient India is built on a healthy Delhi," she stated.
