The first air train system in India is set to launch at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport. The objectives of this system are to assure passenger convenience, cut down on travel time between airport terminals, parking lots, and other amenities, and provide seamless connectivity.
At Indira Gandhi International Airport, this proposed air train, also called the Automated People Mover will link Terminals 1, 2, 3, Aerocity, and Cargo City. It will travel about 7.7 kilometres and feature four stations. The DTC bus that crosses the airport will be replaced by the new project.
Although the project's exact cost is unknown, the sources suggest that it will cost about ₹2,000 crore. The project is anticipated to receive bids in October and November. A contract awarding committee will consider factors such as viability gap funding, revenue-share structures, and cost. By the end of 2027, the air train system should be operational.
One of the busiest airports in the nation, Indira Gandhi International Airport welcomes more than seven crore travellers each year. The airport is expected to handle twice as many passengers in the next six to seven years, therefore this air train is essential to maintain uninterrupted connectivity.
